PESTS<\/h1>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\">1. Helopeltis bugs (Helopeltis schoutedeni and H. anacardii)<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">These slender insects, about 7-10 mm long, have long legs and antennae. They usually lay their eggs on flower stalks. Both adults and larvae suck sap from young leaves, shoots, and developing fruit. Coconut bug (Pseudotheraptus wayi)<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">These insects typically suck sap from young cashew nuts, causing dents. The kernel inside is also affected, reducing the commercial value of the cashew nuts.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Control:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">&#8211; Raising yellow ants on cashew trees. Yellow ants can repel and attack coconut stink bugs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">&#8211; Regular monitoring of young nuts can help farmers identify damage at an early stage.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\">3. The cashew weevil (Mecocorynus loripes)<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The cashew weevil is large weevil, about 20mm long. Their eggs and larvae reside in holes they bore into the bark of trees. They bore through the bark and move downwards, creating tunnels just beneath the surface while feeding on the sapwood. The damaged parts of the trunk and main branches will show dried, hardened, dark brown sap adhering to them.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Control:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">&#8211; Scrape the bark in the affected areas and destroy the larvae and eggs on mildly infected plants.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">&#8211; Severely infected trees should be cut down to prevent the infection from spreading to surrounding trees.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\">4. Stem borer (Plocaederus obesus)<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">These are the larvae of the brown longhorn beetle. They have soft bodies, are white or pale yellow, and are about 2-3 cm long when mature. The larvae bore into the stems and roots of plants, creating small holes or long grooves, reducing the plant&#8217;s ability to receive water and nutrients. DISEASES<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Cashew diseases can become particularly severe during periods of high humidity and rainfall. Early identification and proper orchard management can help reduce their impact on leaves, flowers, fruits, and overall tree health.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\">1. Anthracnose (Lasiodiplodia theobromae)<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Anthracnose disease in cashew trees is caused by the fungus <em>Colletotrichum gloeosporioides<\/em>, which thrives during the rainy season or when humidity is high. The disease creates a fine, grayish-white powdery layer on the surface of young leaves, shoots, flowers, and young fruits, reducing photosynthesis, causing flower drop, fruit deformation, and a serious drop in yield.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Control:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">&#8211; Pruning and shaping the orchard after harvest ensures good ventilation and ample sunlight. Since powdery mildew fungus cannot tolerate high temperatures or strong ultraviolet radiation, pruning suckers (shoots growing from the trunk or lower branches) to increase sunlight exposure can help prevent the disease.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">&#8211; Clean the garden, collect and destroy severely diseased parts.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">&#8211; Maintaining good airflow and sunlight penetration can help create less favorable conditions for disease development.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\">3.
