Vietnam processes more cashews than any country, yet foreign brands keep most of the profit. Organic OEM done right can change that.

Vietnam has held the top spot in cashew kernel processing and export for nearly two decades, according to the Vietnam Cashew Association (VINACAS). Yet most of that volume still leaves the country as plain white kernels, packed under someone else's label. The roasting, seasoning, branding, and retail shelf placement — the stages that actually generate the highest margins — happen somewhere else, under someone else's name.
Industry leaders have started saying this openly: Vietnam is strong on the "hardware" of the cashew supply chain — farming, processing, logistics — but weak on the "software": brand ownership, marketing, and direct access to end consumers. A shopper in Germany or California may eat Vietnamese cashews every week without ever knowing where they came from. That gap is exactly where the highest-value part of the chain sits, and exactly where most Vietnamese processors have never competed.

One realistic way to close part of that gap is quality, not just volume. The global organic food market was projected to approach USD 320 billion by 2025, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and organic cashew demand is riding that curve. Buyers in the EU, US, and Japan are willing to pay a premium for kernels backed by real certification — not because organic is a trend, but because it removes risk from their own supply chain: fewer chemical residue issues, clearer traceability, and a story their own customers can trust.
This is where sourcing strategy matters as much as certification. Target Agriculture works with international buyers in two ways: direct export of certified organic cashew kernels, and OEM production tailored to a client's own specifications — roast level, seasoning, packaging format. What we deliberately don't do is build our own consumer brand in the international retail markets our partners operate in. For an importer or private label buyer, that distinction matters more than it sounds: it means the factory filling your orders today won't be competing for your shelf space tomorrow.

Certifications only mean something when they're backed by a traceable farm network. Target Agriculture's cashew operations in Vietnam connect more than 2,000 rural farming households to processing facilities holding EU Organic, USDA Organic, FSSC 22000, BRC, and HALAL certification, among others — the same standards buyers in Europe, North America, and the Middle East ask for before they'll even open negotiations.
Vietnam's cashew industry built its reputation on scale. The next chapter, for the businesses that want a share of the value they're already creating, is built on certification, transparency, and partners who don't quietly become competitors. If you're sourcing organic cashew for export or OEM production, Target Agriculture would welcome the conversation — reach out to our Vietnam team to discuss your specifications and certification requirements.
