Every time you choose a Fairtrade product from Target Agriculture, you are doing more than buying cashews.
These are ethnic minority families who have worked the same red soil for generations. Quiet, resilient people who rise before dawn during harvest season and come home long after dark. They do not ask for much. But for years, what they had to come home to was a corrugated iron shelter that leaked when it rained and shook when the wind came through. We saw it ourselves. And we could not unsee it.
These are the homes our farmers were living in before the project began — makeshift shelters of corrugated iron, unstable and unsafe, where every storm season brought another round of anxiety for the families inside.
When customers choose a Target Agriculture Fairtrade-certified organic cashew product, a portion of that purchase flows into a Fairtrade Premium fund — money that belongs to the farming community, to be used however they collectively decide. These communities chose housing.
Not farming equipment. Not training programs. Housing — because when you have spent years worrying about whether your walls will stand, a solid home is the most radical thing you can imagine.
In 2025, under our "Eliminating Dilapidated Housing" project, Target Agriculture completed 5 new homes for ethnic minority farming families in Tho Son Commune, Dong Nai Province — the same community where our organic cashew orchards and intercropping project are rooted.
Each home replaced a structure that should have been condemned years ago. What went up in its place was simple: solid walls, a proper roof, a floor that does not flood. Nothing extravagant. Everything necessary.
The journey begins — construction crews and community members working side by side, laying foundations and raising walls with Fairtrade Premium funds. What started as a damaged plot of land was slowly becoming something a family could call home.
Five new homes, completed and ready. Clean walls, tiled floors, proper windows — built to last through seasons that the old shelters never could. For families who had lived under leaking roofs for years, walking through these doors for the first time was something they will not forget.
On 23 December 2025, we gathered in Tho Son Commune for the official handover ceremony. There were speeches. There were handshakes. Local community leaders, cooperative members, and the families themselves all came together for a moment that had taken years of small decisions to arrive at.
But mostly, there were people standing in front of their new front doors looking like they finally had permission to exhale.
The home handover ceremony, 23 December 2025 — a morning of quiet celebration in Tho Son Commune, where five families officially received the keys to their new homes, surrounded by community leaders, cooperative members, and the Target Agriculture team.
We will be honest — Target Agriculture did not build these homes alone. You did, too.
Every Fairtrade organic cashew product you chose sent a small amount back to the farming community through our Fairtrade Premium fund. The farmers themselves decided what to do with it. They chose housing. And so housing is what we built — together. If you have ever picked up one of our products and wondered whether the Fairtrade label actually meant anything, now you know. It meant five families in Binh Phuoc are sleeping soundly tonight.
These five homes are one project among many. At Target Agriculture, giving back to our farming communities is not something we do once a year for a report — it runs through everything we do, from organic farming training to intercropping projects to initiatives like this one.
There is more in the works. Because every time you choose our Fairtrade cashews, you are not just buying a quality product — you are quietly contributing to something that changes lives in ways a label cannot fully capture. Thank you for being part of it.
