In 1994, Dr. Thomas Gerbracht — a successful German entrepreneur — visited Sri Lanka and came back with more than photographs. He came back with a decision: to sell his business interests in Germany and build something rooted in the soil of a country he had only just discovered.
What he built was not a trading company. From the very beginning, it was an organic farming operation — cultivating fruits and coconuts on a plantation in the south of Sri Lanka, working directly with local farming communities, and connecting them to international buyers who valued knowing exactly where their food came from.
That was over thirty years ago. The philosophy has not changed. The scale has.
What began as a family project in Sri Lanka has grown into Target Agriculture Group — a multinational organic food business operating across Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam, and Indonesia, with commercial representation in Germany.
Across these four countries, Target Agriculture has built distinct organic supply chains tailored to each region's strengths:
- Sri Lanka: Organic coconut products, tropical fruits, spices, and fruit juices — the original heartland of the business, with over three decades of certified organic farming experience
- Thailand: Organic tropical fruits, frozen fruit, and fruit juice operations, ranked among the top three organic produce exporters from Thailand in 2019
- Vietnam: Certified organic cashew nuts — from owned orchards in Binh Phuoc to two dedicated processing factories and a retail-ready OEM packaging line
- Indonesia: Organic coconut sugar, coconut nectar, and coconut-derived products — EU Organic and Naturland certified since 2021 and 2022 respectively
Together, the group offers buyers more than 200 certified organic products, exported to customers across Europe, the United States, Asia, and Australia.
Target Agriculture entered Vietnam in 2011 with a clear focus: Binh Phuoc province, the heartland of Vietnamese cashew cultivation, and the region best positioned to produce organic cashew kernels at export scale.
The milestones since then reflect disciplined, consistent growth:
- 2012: First certified organic cashew kernels exported from Vietnam to the United States
- 2017: Vietnam's first dedicated organic cashew processing factory commissioned
- 2020: Second organic cashew factory operational
- 2022: Vietnam total exports reach 300 containers per year
- 2025: Monthly export volume reaches 350 tonnes of certified organic cashews

In Vietnam, those funds have been used to build homes for ethnic minority farming families in Dong Nai Province, fund organic farming training programs, and support intercropping initiatives that generate income for farmers beyond the cashew harvest season.
